The kit clearly states that it is suitable for children aged 8+. So I sat down with my eldest son for a creative afternoon making accessories for his school bag. We also made some fashion jewelry for his little sister.

We began with a look through the contents of the kit. There are lot of different designs to choose from, including sheets with individual letters on to create a personalised key chain. Liam decided that this would be ideal for his new school bag. We read through the instructions and made a start.

We secured the clear drawing sheet over the design with masking tape and squeezed out the Gel-A-Peel over the design. The instructions call for 15 minutes drying time between each application of the individual Gel-A-Peel colours. I really wish we had waited it out. Instead we got a little impatient and rushed through each letter. This meant we were left with a design that was not strong enough to be attached to the key chain. Lesson learnt.

Not to be deterred, we took what we had learnt from our first attempt and made a bracelet next. We followed the instructions to the letter, making extra sure that the Gel-A-Peel was connected. If you leave big gaps, then the bracelet will just collapse when you peel it off. We were much more successful second time around and Liam’s little sister was delighted with the result.

We did have to open an window though when we were making the bracelet as the smell of the Gel-A-Peel did get quite strong.

Using a Gel-A-Peel Delxe Kit

We are keen to have a go at making our own designs next time we use the set. We will draw out our own designs onto paper. Then secure the clear drawing sheet over the top, before applying the Gel-A-Peel over our designs. Ideas we have include personalising a pair of sunglasses and jazzing up our back to school stationary.

Overall I would recommend the Gel-A-Peel Deluxe Set for a child over the age of 8, who has a strong interest in creating their own fashion jewelry and accessories. It’s easy to use and provides lots of opportunity to be creative with the contents of the set. Plus there is plenty of Gel-A-Peel included to have a go at your own designs as well. It does require a good deal of patience and a steady hand, so it definitely not suitable for younger kids or older kids with very short attention spans.

We received a Gel-A-Peel Deluxe Kit for free in exchange for an honest review of the product. All opinions included are based on our own experience of the product.
