Birthday cards, Thank You cards, Get Well Soon cards,

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day cards and the list goes on and on. There

always seems to be an occasion coming up which is in need of a card. The cost of buying all of the cards you need

soon adds up. Why not make some of your

own?

We love to make home-made greetings cards in our house. I encourage all of my children to make their

own cards when they are invited to friend’s birthday parties. They love to get involved in making their own

invitations as well. I also think it is very important to send out Thank You

cards especially to family members whenever they have sent the children gifts.

On this occasion we were in need of some Thank You cards to

send to relatives, who had bought my 2 year old birthday presents. Because these cards were from my 2 year old, I

wanted her to play the main role in their creation, with her brothers helping

her to make them into something even more special.

Here’s how we did it:

My toddler was given free reign to paint onto a large sheet

of white paper. I also folded some pieces of card for her to paint. She had

great fun doing this. Once dry the boys helped to cut out shapes from the

painted white paper to stick onto the front of some cards. They then turned her pink splodges on the

cards I had folded for her, into funny faces with the googly eyes and feathers.

There is something really special about receiving a home-made

card, whatever the occasion. My sons have received some lovely

hand-made cards from their friends at birthdays especially and these are the

ones they want to keep in their memory boxes.

Older relatives also love to receive hand-made cards from their

grandchildren to proudly display in their homes.

What kinds of cards do you like to make with your kids?
