Are your kids reluctant to get outdoors now it’s turning chilly? Engage them on a nature walk with the task of collecting leaves to make this awesome Owl Leaf Collage.

"autumn

I decided to give Liam a break from a learning activity for this 2nd Grade Blogging Team project. Our theme for the week is leaves, so I set Liam a leaf art challenge. I asked him to make an owl collage using the leaves we had collected on a recent nature walk.

We did manage to sneak in lots of learning into our two previous 2nd grade activities – Create your own Superhero Comic Photo Strip and Apple Fractions.

There were signs of autumn (fall) all around us on our nature walk through the woods. The leaves on the trees are beginning to change, the autumn heather was in full bloom, berries are appearing on the trees and the first signs of a bumper bramble (blackberry) crop were becoming apparent. We collected a big haul of leaves, as we made our way around and brought them home with us, to indulge in our first autumn arts and crafts of the coming new season.

How to make an Awesome Owl Collage with autumn leaves

I wanted to give Liam as much freedom as possible during this activity, to use his own imagination and ideas to create his leaf art owl collage. So I just laid out the materials and sat back and watched him work.
