We love getting messy with shaving foam at home. It’s a fantastic texture for kids to explore in a sensory activity and it’s easy to clean up (win win). It was the perfect ingredient to add to a Christmas themed Tuff Spot activity to fill a chilly afternoon.

Tuff Spot Christmas Tree Messy Play

You will need:

  • Shaving Foam

  • Tuff Spot (or similar)

  • Water Beads

  • Scoops or spoons

  • Glitter and Sequins

  • Warm soapy water and towels on standby!

    Ahead of the Activity

I began by tracing the outline of a Christmas Tree inside of our tuff spot with shaving foam. I then squirted more and more shaving foam inside the outline until it was full. You don’t need to invest in expensive shaving foam for this activity, discount store own brand is ideal.

I also prepared 4 different coloured batches of water beads in the morning, ready to use in this activity (they take about 4 hours to grow to full size). These were going to be the “Christmas Tree Baubles”.

"Christmas

Bella had to be held back from leaping straight into the middle of the Christmas Tree before I had chance to invite her to decorate it with the waterbead decorations. She loves to get messy!

We chatted about the different colours of waterbeads, as she spread them over the Christmas Tree with a handy coffee scoop. Then of course no Christmas activity would be complete without some added sparkle. I poured out glitter and sequins for her to finish off her Christmas tree nicely.

    "Christmas

Then all that was left to was take her Christmas Tree down again a.k.a. mess it all up. The messier it gets the more fun it is!

When she asked me to play along with her, it was hard to resist the silky smooth shaving foam and waterbeads combination. So I got stuck in with her and we giggled away piling up the foam to make Snowmen and bake cakes. We then had fun tracing pictures into the shaving foam before it was time to get cleaned up.

    "Messy

I quickly wiped my hands on a towel and filled a bowl with warm soapy water for Bella to wash her hands and arms in next to the tray. This didn’t quite go to plan though. She thought that the water was the next part of the activity. And she began to scoop the shaving foam and waterbeads into the bowl of water as well.

    "snowman

My husband chose this point to walk into the kitchen. And the look on his face was priceless, as he greeted the pair of us splashing around in shaving foam filled water. We did try and persuade him to join in, but we couldn’t tempt him!
